Chana dal, also known as broken Bengali grain, is made by removing the outer layer of Kala Chana (black chickpeas) and breaking up the grain. They are slightly larger than most other pulses, yellow in colour, and have a delicious, slightly sweet and earthy flavour. It is eaten with roti or rice and sabji.

Preparation/use: Wash Chana Dall thoroughly before cooking and soak overnight (at least 2-3 hours). The cooking time is about 30-60 minutes.
